Unique among California's 58 counties, Alpine consists of 776 square miles of rugged mountain peaks
and canyons; beautiful valleys and lush green meadows; clear, cold streams and rivers; and sparkling
lakes. Alpine is by far the least populated of all California counties and one of the least populated
in the nation. A population of 1100 people (1990) census, resides mainly in the four small villages
of Markleeville, Woodfords, Kirkwood, and Bear Valley.
The County's economy is based on recreation and tourism. Popular activities which can be enjoyed
almost everywhere in the county include: hiking, fishing, photography, camping, boating, river
rafting, horseback riding, downhill and cross-country skiing, snowmobiling, cycling, hunting, and
climbing.
Come work and live in one of the few pristine, unspoiled areas of America.
