Modoc County is a land of ragged lava plateaus, fertile valleys and towering mountains. The
elevation of the County is 4,340 feet.
The County's predominate attribute is solitude. You can see the stars, geese flying, many antelope,
deer and even some eagles. Modoc County's population is approximately 10,000. Modoc lacks congestion,
has no traffic signals and no pollution.
Modoc County is home to a National Wildlife Refuge that covers 6,696 acres.
The refuge is an important resting and feeding area for migratory birds. In season, hunting is
allowed in about one-third of the refuge.
